There's something quietly magical about watching two people's hands being bound together. Handfasting is the…
The Bucket List Motivator
We all have those things on our “wish list” which we would absolutely love to do!
Well… I have a few when it comes to doing ceremonies in certain locations and also quirky fun ways. So let’s help each other!
The deal is this.
Help me clear my bucket list – with photos and video that I can use and you pay all the extras (travel, accommodation or any out of pocket costs for props & costumes etc.) but you get the ceremony for “free”. My payment for the ceremony is the experience I want.
However, some rules do apply.
- There is still a non-refundable deposit – a minimum of $200. This is for the legal paperwork and processes “in the background”.
- Travel and accomodation costs still apply
- Any “out of pocket costs” eg – tickets, pass, etc we would discuss. Normally if I am not charging you, you are not charging me either – this would be covered. If it is costly – then we will chat and maybe share the cost in lieu of the ceremony fee.
- The standard processes (for all legal ceremonies) would apply – verifying ability to marry, consent and appropriate timeframes.
- I would need to be available! (Maybe we can change the date if I am not?)
- This “bonus” applies to the FIRST COUPLE to “go ahead” for each item on the bucket list. And who knows … if this works I may just expand the list to include more things as time goes on!
So what’s on the bucket list?
Let’s just list it! and don’t be afraid to make a suggestion of something else “out there” that I may enjoy!
Ceremony on a Cruise Ship (in front of the various passengers in the “ballroom” or “fancy dining room” – you would need to get permission for this and also to get me onto the ship!)
Hot Air Balloon – up in the air – saying your vows, ideally as the sun rises to get the most amazing view! Now… we would need to fit a minimum of 5 of us plus the hot air balloon operator as we need both of you, plus me and 2 witnesses. We could have 1 less if the hot balloon operator agreed to be a witness.
At “The Gap” in Albany. A ceremony at the end of the platform with the water & natural bridge behind us! (We would need to get permissions from DBCA to do this)
A surprise wedding party as celebrant & MC (have done a couple – but no video to show it) where we throw an amazing engagement party – sneak away for a minute and then come out and guess what … you are married! It would be great to capture this moment when people realise that the engagement celebration has just turned into a wedding celebration!
Helicopter Jump – say I do in the helicopter then “jump!” (signing of the paperwork would be on the ground so we don’t accidentally lose it mid-air!).
A Hippy Dress up themed wedding Honestly – I just want the fun of the dress up and the laughs, and damn, wouldn’t it make great photos!
A muddy gumboot farm wedding where we embrace winter – have the fancy dresses and clothes and instead of fancy shoes – all have gumboots and feel free to splash!
Busy pub karaoke night turns into wedding! Have fun, sing a long with the crowd and then suddenly we call you up and you get married in front of everyone and the songs then continue! (We could even have karaoke songs lined up for each part of your ceremony!)
Bonfire night & handfasting Early evening, huge big bonfire and a more traditional handfasting as the sun goes down. Imagine the images of the sky, fire and of course both of you!
So what’s next? Do any of these sound like something you would like or do you have another fun & funky idea?

This is a cool idea – but what do you call a big cost that could potentially be shared?
Look at it this way – if I normally would have a $600 – 900 ceremony (the part you get for free) and the “adventure” we choose on the bucket list costs $350 – then as it is less than the ceremony fee – I would expect this to be covered. I have some fun and you are paying less than what you would normally for a ceremony – just with the “ticket” or “entry” (or whatever it is for that particular adventure) instead.
If the cost of the adventure exceeds the normal ceremony cost – then I wouldn’t expect you to pay higher – we would come to an arrangement regarding how we share the cost to make it work.
It might not be necessarily 50 / 50, but it would be shared in a way that ensures that your portion is still less than what the ceremony fee would have been so that we both get ahead and feel we have had a win!
And thankyou for asking! I love when people ask questions as it helps to clear things up, improve content and get more ideas!
