Questions? Curiosities? Perfectly normal!
Let’s be honest — there are always a million little questions when you’re planning the perfect ceremony!
I’ve popped a few of the common ones below — just click on a question to open it up and see the answer.
And if there’s something else on your mind, no worries at all — drop me a note using the form below or add your question when you book.
No question is too small, too random, or too “is this a weird thing to ask?” — I’ve probably heard it before (and love helping with them all!).
How do I choose the right celebrant?
It’s a bit like finding the right wedding dress (or suit!) — you’ll know when it feels right.
Choosing your celebrant isn’t just about ticking a box; it’s about finding someone whose style, energy, and personality match yours. Meet with a few, chat about your vision, and see who you click with.
Make sure they’re an authorised celebrant (you can double-check that here: https://marriage.ag.gov.au/commonwealthcelebrants/all) and that they understand what matters most to you.
And if, after a chat, we decide I’m not quite your perfect match — that’s totally fine! I’ll happily recommend some other amazing celebrants in the area who might suit your vibe better.
How soon should we book you?
As soon as you’ve locked in your date — because honestly, without a celebrant, there’s no wedding!
Popular weekends and long weekends can book out up to 5 years ahead, so it’s always worth getting in touch early to secure your spot.
Even if you’re just thinking about it, let’s chat — no pressure, just planning!
How far do you travel and what does it cost?
I’m based mainly in the Great Southern and South West regions, but I do love a good road trip! I’ve been known to travel as far north as Dongara and Geraldton, down to Margaret River, and even into the northern suburbs of Perth.
What really matters to me is availability — so wherever you are, don’t hesitate to reach out. If I can make it work, I will!
As for travel costs… well, let’s be honest — it’s not always easy to give a flat figure.
I generally work on about $1 per kilometre when driving, but if I’ve got multiple ceremonies nearby or I’m already heading that way, I’ll happily share the travel cost to keep things fair for everyone. Sometimes it even works out cheaper (and faster!) to fly.
If I need accommodation or meals, we can chat about that too. I’m not fancy — a comfy, clean granny flat, guest room or caravan and a few home-cooked meals will do the trick. I just need a bit of peace and quiet to rest up so I can be at my best for your big day.
And yes, if that’s something you can offer, we can count it in lieu of accommodation or meal costs.
How do I know that you are a registered celebrant? There was a story of a fake one a while ago
We’ve all heard that horror story about the “fake celebrant” who wasn’t actually authorised to marry anyone (and honestly, no one quite knows how those certificates even happened!).
Rest assured — yes, I am a fully registered Commonwealth-authorised Marriage Celebrant, officially registered since early 2023 after completing my training in 2022.
If you’d like to double-check (and put your mind at ease), you can look me up on the Attorney-General’s official list of registered celebrants here:
Just click on WA and enter RYAN-TAYLOR — you’ll see me listed as Mrs Kathleen Ryan-Taylor (and yes, Kate is short for Kathleen).
How much does a ceremony cost?
There’s no one-size-fits-all price because every ceremony (and every couple!) is different.
Think of it as “you get what you need — and nothing you don’t”.
A Legals Only ceremony is your quick, simple “get it done” option — perfect for couples who just want the legal part taken care of.
Full personalised ceremonies vary depending on your location, inclusions, and optional extras — but don’t stress, I’ll always give you a clear quote before you commit.
What’s included in your ceremony fee?
Pretty much everything you need for a seamless ceremony:
✨ The legal paperwork and lodgement
✨ All meetings, planning, and communication
✨ A custom-written ceremony that reflects you* depending on package chosen
✨ Use of my professional PA system
✨ Delivery on the day (and usually a few laughs along the way!)
Optional extras like rehearsals, MC services, livestreaming, or help writing vows and speeches can easily be added — just let me know when you book.
Do celebrants perform religious or cultural ceremonies?
Celebrants are beautifully flexible — that’s one of the things couples love most about us!
We’re not tied to any particular religion, which means your ceremony can include as much or as little spirituality or tradition as you wish.
I’ve incorporated everything from traditional Celtic and Gaelic rituals, Japanese rituals, and Christian readings — and honestly, I love embracing the unique traditions, beliefs, and cultural touches that make your ceremony truly yours.
If there’s an element that I feel I can’t personally do justice to, I’ll always work with you to co-facilitate that part — perhaps inviting a family member, friend, or community leader you know and trust to take that role. That way, your beliefs are honoured with the respect and authenticity they deserve.
Can we include our kids, pets, or something unique in the ceremony?
Absolutely! I love when couples include their fur-babies, kids, or fun rituals.
Whether it’s a unity drink, handfasting, candle lighting, a ring-warming, or a family vow moment — we’ll make it flow naturally and feel authentically “you”.
Do you offer any help beyond the wedding ceremony?
Yes! I offer a range of extras to help make your day stress-free —
💡 Writing your vows or speeches
💡 Creating a timeline for the day
💡 Coordinating vendors
💡 Rehearsals
💡 MC’ing your reception
💡 Even setting up or packing down if you need an extra pair of hands
Just mention it when you book, and we’ll build it into your package or quote.
Is it true that you make wedding favours?
Sure do — and they’re sweet in every sense! 🍯🍫
My husband and I run The Gourmet Bee, where we create local honey jars, honey infusions and handmade chocolates as personalised wedding favours.
They’re custom-labelled to match your wedding theme and can double as place cards or table decor. A delicious way to thank your guests — and trust me, they’ll actually want to take these home!
