Am I Really a Bridezilla?

Let’s be real — wedding planning can make even the calmest of humans question their sanity. One minute you’re happily ticking off a to-do list, and the next you’re wondering why your florist hasn’t replied, your bridesmaid group chat has gone silent, and your mum keeps saying “in my day…”

And suddenly — someone drops the word.
Bridezilla.
(Or Groomzilla — let’s be fair here!)

So, are you actually being one… or are you just stressed, stretched, and trying your absolute best to make everyone happy?

Take a Breath — You’re Not a Monster

First up, take a deep breath. You’re not some wedding-crazed creature. You’re a person under pressure, trying to juggle dreams, deadlines, and the delicate art of keeping everyone’s opinions at bay.

If people are calling you a bridezilla, it might be time for a quick check-in rather than a meltdown. Ask yourself:

  • Am I acting out of stress or fear that something will go wrong?
  • Am I feeling the weight of other people’s expectations?
  • Is there financial pressure or time stress bubbling under the surface?

Think of it like when something makes you sick with stress — because that’s really what “bridezilla” moments are. They’re not about perfectionism; they’re about overwhelm, anxiety, and the desperate hope that everything (and everyone) will come together just right.

Check the Mismatches

Sometimes the problem isn’t you — it’s a mismatch in expectations or communication.
Here’s where it can sneak in:

Your bridal party:
Are you expecting more from them than they can realistically give — time, money, or emotional energy? Everyone’s circumstances are different, and sometimes what feels like lack of care is really just lack of capacity.

Your vendors (yep, even your celebrant!):
Before frustration takes over, go back to your Terms & Conditions or your original agreement. What did they actually agree to do? Sometimes it’s not about poor service — it’s just misaligned expectations or unclear communication.

Your family:
This is a big one. Is there pressure around “what you must do” that doesn’t sit right with you? If your wedding day is starting to feel more like a performance than a celebration, it’s okay to reset. This day is about you two — not everyone else’s version of tradition or perfection.

Refocus on What Actually Matters

Here’s the thing: the most beautiful weddings aren’t perfect.
They’re full of real moments — messy, funny, heartfelt, sometimes chaotic — but absolutely you.

So, if you feel yourself spiralling or snapping, pause. Step back.
Bring it back to the two of you — the love, the story, the reason you’re doing all this in the first place.

Maybe it’s time to:

  • Scale back something that’s adding more stress than joy
  • Change your wording or your approach in a conversation
  • Ask for help (you’re allowed!)
  • Or remind yourself that the goal isn’t the big everything — it’s a day that feels right.

Because at the end of it all, you don’t need to be the perfect planner. You just need to show up as the perfectly imperfect humans who said “yes” to each other — and that’s what makes your celebration magic.

Keep Perspective — and Keep It Kind

This is one day.
Yes, it’s a big one — but you don’t want it to have a negative impact on the rest of your life. Speak to your friends, your family, and your partner, and remember to focus on your love and your relationship with them first, over anything else. If you realise you’ve been acting a little out of sorts, don’t be afraid to say, “Hey, I’m sorry — I didn’t realise how stressed I’ve been with all this and that I took it out on you.”
That simple moment of honesty can reset everything and bring back the joy that got lost in the planning chaos.

So .. one last thing

If you ever catch yourself thinking, “Am I being too much?” remember: care, passion, and excitement are beautiful things. The trick is just to keep them grounded in love, laughter, and perspective.

You’re not a bridezilla. You’re a human, doing your best to create something special — and that’s something worth celebrating.
